Shannon

Meet Shannon, mother to four children ages 7, 4, 1.5 years old and 3 months old.

I’m going to let Shannon tell you her story but I will leave you with this. The impact of this virus is mighty. Some feel the impact more than others. And some families have to sacrifice their newborn baby getting to know the smell of her dad, the calm of his arms and the safety of his chest all to maintain good health. I think that’s one of the most difficult choices of all to make.

Shannon, you had to make the hardest choice and you did it with love and care for your kids. You’re an incredible mother, one to inspire. Thank you for sharing your story so openly and honestly.

Words written by Shannon:
We had our *surprise* 4th baby at the end of January. L.A. is 7, Addison is 4, Blakely is 1 1/2 and Harper is now 3 months. We were lucky to have another healthy child to join our family. When Harper was a month old covid-19 started to become a threat in America and soon after we decided to have Alan move out of our home. I was afraid of her getting sick at such a young age and I was also fearful that I would become too sick to take care of all 4 of our children. Alan is a Greenwich Police Officer and he takes on extra police shifts to support the security at Greenwich Hospital. Greenwich Hospital was one of the first Covid-19 testing tents to open, and he was patrolling the garage where the tests were being done.

I have always been overly cautious about my children’s health, sometimes to a fault. My son had a brain injury when he was 3 and I have never been the same. I always jump to worse case scenario in my head so as expected, I worry daily over this virus. I now have 4 kids plus my husband to worry about.

Luckily due to both my husband and my work schedule we have an Au Pair who lives with us. She has been with us for exactly one year and chose not to go home to visit her family in Brazil once the outbreak occurred. She wanted to keep our family along with her family safe. She has always been but more-so now is my right hand girl! She has taken over as Blakely’s second mom. I feel so lucky.

Our situation is nowhere near as horrible as other families.

We will make it, and hopefully come out stronger.
